Over the Dunes to the Beach

Categories: ,

Perched atop sandy bluffs on the southeast corner of Block Island, the Block Island Southeast Lighthouse has been a coastal beacon for over 200 years. Built in 1875, this iconic lighthouse features a distinctive granite tower topped with a black lantern room. At 67 feet tall, the light’s powerful beam can be seen for over 20 nautical miles, warning ships of the island’s treacherous rocky shores. The grounds also include the lightkeeper’s quarters and outbuildings from the late 19th century, allowing visitors to step back in time.
